The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 10-bed unit, equipped to provide highly specialized care to patients who suffer from a serious illness or injury. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and others trained in the care of the critically ill, provide 24-hour observation, intensive nursing care and complex medical support for their patients.
Patients may be admitted to the ICU from the emergency room, an operating room, from another care unit in the hospital or directly by their physician. Admission is based on a physicians decision that close observation and monitoring is medically necessary and in the patients' best interest. Once these specialized services are no longer required the patient will be discharged from the ICU to another unit or to home.
The ICU phone number is 203.876.4160.
Due to federal laws, please have one representative of the family designated as a spokesperson to call the unit. Keep in mind that only limited information can be given over the phone.
Rest is very important in the ICU patient's recovery. Please keep visits brief and positive.
